The vast distance between us and the stars makes them look never-changing. Gazing at the starry sky feels predictable. It is one of the most stunning sights in the world, perhaps because it is so hard to grasp. It offers so many questions. How is it organized? Where is each star located and how old is the light that we see?

At first glance, the starry night sky looks like a coherent unit. If we can get close enough to scratch the surface, we can gain knowledge about each single star, what it is made of and how it works. But what if the sky suddenly changes? What if the predictable surface that we have come to trust is no longer stable? And if what appears under it is unbearable?

In Eruptive Stars, Westgård seeks to uncover something beneath the seemingly constant surface. Could there be something hidden that operates, which she does not know yet? And can she surrender to the unpredictable?
