Juanitas is a choreographic journey into contradictions – where imagination and reality, pleasure and sadness, the funny and the profound, gentleness and risk are always in motion, like a pendulum that continually swings from side to side.
The characters of Juanitas are on a mission to re-enchant the world. They want you to see the labor in the process of making magic. Their aim is to awaken people by exposing cracks and connections in reality and fantasy while balancing on tipping points between these. Juanitas can teach you things you already know deep within but have forgotten – the magic of the unique moment.
Mariblanca, Berstad and Helgebostad met in 2019 while working with Berstad and Helgebostad’s project KNOW HOWS. It was in this project that Juanita was discovered. In the pandemic Juanita visited elderly homes and a children's hospital and now she is finally visiting Black Box teater!
Bananaz – Association for Performing Arts brings together various performing artists and their practices. The association emphasizes collective working methods and sees artistic expression in the performing arts as a result of collective and contextual processes. Developing unique production models for each project lies at the heart of the association, as well as promoting the qualities that arise in encounters with the places and people where each project unfolds.
