Tyngde (Heaviness) is the story of a life where love, resilience, and optimism manage to lighten that which weighs us down.
The project is an interdisciplinary encounter between the text Tyngde by Demian Vitanza, Butoh dance, and punk music. The performance is produced by Agder Nye Teater, directed by Magnus Sparsaas.
The text originated from conversations between playwright Demian Vitanza and actor Terje Strømdahl. Vitanza explains: "When I met him, he had recently lost his husband. I heard stories about this man's struggles throughout his life, with illness, bullying, and finding refuge in a religion that did not allow him to live out his sexual orientation. But even there, there was a source of comfort, and this time it was in the plant kingdom. Perhaps sometimes you have to move away from the human to manage to be human?"
● Agder Nye Teater is a theatre and performing arts collective based in Arendal. They work to create, present, and disseminate performing arts in Agder – and from Agder further out into the country. ANT believes that art and social engagement mutually reinforce one another and strives to be a locally rooted cultural institution. They work to create experimental and open performances based on newly written drama for a broad audience. Collaborations with visiting performing artists from a wide range of backgrounds and fields arise from a need for collective work and the exchange of experience. ANT is run by Magnus Sparsaas and Sebastian Biong. Demian Vitanza won the Ibsen Prize for his work Tyngde.
