The Dead Live On In Our Dreams premiered in 2019 and is a multi-year project. Now, however, the project has taken a completely new direction and on Wednesday 4 October there is the Norwegian premiere of To be means to resist what you are not.
Hooman Sharifi explores how one's own background and identity can be manipulated and how we can create our future by changing the past. On stage together with Sharifi we meet the Iranian musician Arash Moradi. The performance becomes a meeting place for empathic memories where each element is linked to the past, folk culture and Sharifi's personal history.
Hooman Sharifi is a Norwegian choreographer with roots in Iran. His dance career started with hip-hop in his teens and continued with classical and modern ballet training in his twenties. He is a trained choreographer at the University of the Arts in Oslo, and is particularly interested in artistic expressions at the intersection between dance, theater and visual arts. In 2000, he established his own company, impure company, that works to highlight social engagement and politics in art. Sharifi's language of movement is often physically challenging, intense and powerful, and explores the deeper feelings behind power, political systems and violence through precise movements and other scenic means. Sharifi was artistic director for Carte Blanche – the Norwegian national company of contemporary dance, from 2014 to 2018.
