A theatrical cabaret about the strive for greatness and the beauty of failing at it together.
From the moment you enter, the rules of the theater begin to blur. The performers welcome you with a glass of bubbles, gently dissolving the distance between audience and actor. At the centre of it all, a theatre curtain appears to have fallen from the sky. Far too many spotlights shine on the draping red velour, turning the curtain into a makeshift stage. You’re invited to gather around it as you would around a dinner table. And before you know it, a chicken has pointed out the people of power in the room, a slow dance opens up a portal and a ballerina crawls on stage to shed her layers.
The Amazing Presents: ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC (half a plan, half a miracle) is a humorous, colorful spectacle and from the very beginning, it's falling apart. It questions what it truly means to be great and proposes failure as a political act against the pressures of contemporary life under capitalism. But most importantly, it’s a collective attempt to let go and find meaning in the moments in between:
A silence that lasts a little too long.
A joke that doesn’t land.
A costume that rips.
There is no perfect version of the evening we spend together. Each performance is different, shaped by a new constellation of people, moods and opportunities. But what stays the same is the invitation: to meet one another in the unknown, and to let that be enough.
To all of you seeking wonder. Without you we are nothing. Without the light in your eyes, we wouldn’t know how to shine. And before we vanish, let us hold here for a second longer and let ourselves be undone.
Forever yours,
Tóth / Lund / Manthey Steen
● Tóth / Lund / Manthey Steen is a performance collective consisting of three former students of the Norwegian Theatre Academy. Together, they work as performers, scenographers, costume designers, and dramaturgs. With their collective, they explore theatrical experiences that embrace and celebrate both grandeur and collapse. ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC … is their debut production as a collective.
When they’re not creating large-scale performances, you can find them working at birthdays, ship christenings, divorce parties, and any other occasion that benefits from champagne and a touch of chaos.
Note
The performance on 6 November will be filmed. Due to the seating arrangement, members of the audience may appear on camera.
