How does the body carry memories that are not our own?Can we sense the traces of stories and experiences that came before us?
Rose Water is a dance performance that explores how memories, heritage, and identity live on in the body. Through movement, vibration, and visual landscapes, Ida Haugen seeks a connection with the unconscious, the invisible, and the spiritual – a bodily opening toward what often remains beyond language.
The work is based on a personal project: Haugen’s mother came to Norway as a Vietnamese boat refugee. In a desire to understand and approach this part of her background, Haugen has spent several years interpreting and experiencing what she has inherited – both consciously and unconsciously. The journey has included travels to Vietnam, where she has searched for family and connections. Rose Water is the result of a multi-year artistic process and emerges from close collaboration with a multidisciplinary artistic team.
With Rose Water, Haugen creates a space for belonging, transformation, and embodied knowledge – across time, space, and generations.
