Choreography for Two Musicians is a work where sound and movement go hand in hand. Friendly chords are swung and lifted, dark sounds are circled, faint beats are sly and lured, loud bells are jogged and jumped, gentle interplay is hugged. Wave valleys and wave peaks glide into each other – a quiet, elongated valley gives birth to a loud and short-breathed peak.

Choreography for Two Musicians places itself within and builds upon several of choreographer Marie Bergby Handeland's works, such as Håndspåleggelse (2022) where flutes playing moves in two levels Femtimeteren (2018), where instruments cycle in a large industrial hall, Six Moving Guitars ( 2019) by composer Fredrik Rasten; and Kirkedanseren (2020), where the audience dances alone to organ music.

Andreas Røysum and Erlend Albertsen are experienced jazz and improvisational musicians who play in varioust band and solo projects. They have a strong interest and curiosity in experimenting with what music can be beyond genre and style.

Marie Bergby Handeland is a critically acclaimed and award-winning choreographer. Choreography for Two Musicians is her fourth production at Black Box teater, where she has previously presented BOYS (2022), Kirkedanseren (2020), and Forfatterbevegelsen (2018). Many of her works are driven by a desire to create larger bodily communities. She aims to amplify the voices and bodies she believes we should listen to, twist what we have already heard by placing it in new frames, and bring forth latent choreographies in people and spaces that may not necessarily know they have them within. She is interested in conversations about power, responsibility, and closeness in the public space – about who we are and how we see each other there.
